MANILA, Philippines—Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) members are holding a three-day event from November 16 to 18 at Quirino Grandstand called “Rally for Transparency and Better Democracy” to emphasize their call for accountability in government.
The number of people who gathered was estimated to be 650,000, according to the Manila Police District.
According to Romulo Feliciano III, the spokesperson of INC, the said rally was voluntary in nature and in solidarity with the church leadership’s call regarding alleged irregularities in government projects such as the flood control issues.
“Hindi ito pamumulitika, ito ay isang moral na panawagan ng mga ordinaryong mamamayan… Hinihiling namin na dinggin ng gobyerno ang sigaw ng taumbayan.” he said.
The gathering was accompanied by the help of the PNP and other agencies with almost 5,000 individuals.
Feliciano also acknowledged any hindrance, like traffic, the gathering may have caused. “Humihingi kami ng paumanhin sa anumang sagabal na naidulot ng amin pagtitipon…” he said.
He also clarified that INC members have not been paid PhP 3,000 or any monetary amount to attend the rally. “Kusang loob namin ’to na pupunta kami rito.” Feliciano said.
